Thanks For The Memory - backing lyrics
First of all, just wanted to say what a great website yours is. Yours is a name I always associate with Slade, having been a fan for a lot of years now, so it's not unsurprising that there are loads of interesting stories and info on there. I've got it bookmarked so I'll be back time and again!
You are so right about the four Slade records that made number two. Kept from the top spot by two one-hit 'wonders' and two novelty
hits! I think the Flying Pickets one bothers me the most. How great would it have been to hit number one again at Xmas and on the tenth anniversary of Merry Xmas Everybody!
Also, something that has always amazed me is that Slade's 70s run of hits ended when 'Nobody's Fool' didn't chart in '76. I've always thought that it was a great single, so for it to not even make the top
50 on the back of 17 top 20 hits, especially seeing (on the BBC4 reruns) some of the dross that was appearing on TOTP at the time, is even more surprising. Great videoclip it's got too!
While I'm having a rant I just have to say what a travesty when 'Still The Same' stopped at #73, and for 'Universe' not to chart - no justice! It shows how great a band Slade were, when there are so many cases of them being unfortunate despite having massive success.
I have a question that I'm hoping you might be able to answer for me. I've sent emails to numerous other Slade fans asking this question, but to no avail. The song in question is 'Thanks for the Memory'. What I am wondering is what the backing lyrics being sung by Dave and Jim are (behind Nod's lead vocal), the second and third times that the chorus is sung?! This has had me wondering
for years so I'm hoping that you might know, and if you don't, I'm sure you will know a man who does!
I've gone on for a while so I'll say Gudbuy Gudbuy now.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Keep on rockin'!
Does anyone know the backing lyrics... I can't understand then all but I think som of them are:
Can you cough?
What's up doc?"
Can anyone help?
